Lesson 7.1: Add a Posting to a Publishing Page

 
Go to a Publishing Page in your Web Site
(usually your home page is a publishing page).

     
  Click on the Edit Page button.
You will be taken to an edit/preview mode of your page where you can add/edit content.

 

     
Click to Insert a New Posting Here.
Notice that you can insert a new posting above or below an existing posting. To learn more about publishing pages and how postings work, click here.

     
Select a layout set from the drop down box and click "Preview" to view the layout choices.
The layout choice you make will be previewed at the bottom of the screen.
A layout can include text, images, files and other publishing features you can add to your posting.

     
  Click to Create A New Layout (optional).
You can click on one of the layout choice shown at the bottom of this page or click to create your own layout using different publishing features.

  Click on a Layout you want to use for your posting.
Once you have clicked on the layout you want for your posting, the Publish Content page will appear. Here you can publish your information to your layout, thus to your posting and your web site. This page guides you through publishing your content through text entry fields.

 

     
Fill out the publishing form.
Based on the layout you have chosen, a publishing form will be crated to allow you to type in text or upload images and files.
   
Enter a Posting Name.
You can name/label your posting. Let's say this posting is going to be where you put the title of your entire web site and your logo. So you could name it "logo" or "title." This name is not used on your actual page, but it may be shown in search results when community members look for interesting stories.
 
  [Note: You should try to name your posting something descriptive. You may need to find postings i nthe future.]

Note: Postings that published on a "private" page in your site will not show up in search results.]
Enter a Title/Headline for Posting.
This field is where you enter the text that will actually appear on your page.
Enter Font Information for Title/Headline.
Here is a series of drop-down boxes that allow you to choose your font type, justification, font size and font color for your title. You will always be given these same choices whenever you are asked to enter text into your site
View Layout Diagram.
Here you will see a small version of the layout you chose. In this diagram, you are working on the information that will appear in the top position of the title area, thus the top position on the small layout graphic is highlighted.
  This diagram will appear next to every element in your layout to remind you how the content will appear on the page.

Enter Text For Posting.
You can just type directly into the text box.
  Enter Font Information for Text.
Here is a series of drop-down boxes that allow you to choose your font type, justification, font size and font color for your title.
Enter Column Span for Text.
You can decide whether the text should appear in 1,2,3 or 4 columns.

View Layout Diagram.
Here you will see a small version of the layout you chose. In this diagram, you are working on the information that will appear in the top position of the title area, thus the top position on the small layout graphic is highlighted.
Click Browse to Upload an Image for your posting.
Search your hard drive to find the .jpg or .gif image you want to upload. Highlight the image and Click "Open."

Designate Size of Image.
You can resize your phot by entering the image width
OR height in the text entry fields. This area is optional. The size and width of your image will automatically be picked up when you upload it, but if you wish to size it down, you may use this area to do so.

Note: Do not put a number in for both the width and the height or the proportions of your photo will be distorted.] For information on creating and using web graphics, click here.
 

  Enter Caption Text for your Image (optional). This text will appear below the image.
  Enter Font Information for Text.
     
  Click Continue Button at Bottom of Page once you have filled in the form.

     
View Posting.
You will see the posting you just created.
     
Click the Done Button at the bottom of the page when you are finished adding content to the preview/edit page. Your posting will appear on your publishing page.
