Calendar
|
An interactive online calendar within a Web Site.
|

Channel
|
A category within CPS used to organize Web Sites within the
database. Each channel can have its own calendar and administrator.

Channel Editor
|
A customer representative who reviews and approvs or rejects
events posted to a channel calendar. Editors have limited access to a channel administration console. Channel editors
can edit channel templates and can edit channel properties for their channel and any subordinate channels.

Channel Template Set
|
Only templates in this set are available to wrap channels.
|
|
Chat
|
A general chat room and available scheduled chat rooms within
a Web Site. This feature is reserved for participants only.

Discussion text saved from an active chat session. |
| Content Feed |
A copy of part of an article or story in the Web Site. You might
insert a content feed on a main page as a teaser paragraph that encourages users to continue to the rest of the
story elsewhere. Also called "news feed." This is a Smart Feature. You can change what stories display
in the feed and when the story displays. |

CPS
|
Community Publishing System (CPS) is the name for the
Local Communities Network, Inc. community software.
|
|
CPS Database
|
An instance of the CPS software. Typically, one database
per Local Communities Network, Inc. customer. The data, preferences, policies, settings, templates, and so on within a CPS database are unique
to that database and that database only.

Create a Site button
|
Clicking this button allows the user to create a Web Site
within the CPS database.

Channel Template
|
The
template used for wrapping any channel created within the
system until another template is selected.

Discussion
or Message Board
|
An online
forum for users to read and respond to discussion topics.
Some content postings include a discussion. To use the discussion
feature, users must enter a discussion topic. The content
posting includes a link to read and respond to the discussion
topic.

Editor
|
A customer representative responsible for reviewing and approving
public content posted within a CPS database. Editors have limited access to a system administration console.
|
|
Email Notification
|
Users can be notified via email of new or updated content
within any of their Web Sites. Based on preferences set by the user, a daily, weekly, or monthly email update of
new and updated content will be compiled and sent to the user.

|
Email Notification Template
|
The template used to wrap any email notification alerts sent
by the CPS database to update users on new content in their Web Sites.
|
|
Email Templates
|
Templates used to wrap automated email messages are sent
to users regarding actions taken within the CPS database (for example, creation of a New User Profile or creation
of a Web Site).

Feedback Form
|
An online form users can add to a Web Site to solicit information
from other users.
|
|
Freeform Publishing Page
|
A publishing page users may add to their Web Site, which
allows them to upload and edit existing HTML pages and graphics.

General Publishing Page
|
A publishing page users add to their Web Sites.
|
|
Go to My Web Site button
|
This button might appear to CPS users. Clicking this button
prompts users to log in, links users to their Starting Web Sites, or both.

Guest
|
An individual not logged in or registered who is visiting
a page within a CPS database.
|

|
Help button
|
Clicking this button displays a context-sensitive Help file
for the current page.
|
|
Home Page
|
The starting page of a Web Site, which contains an index
of other pages in the site, a publishing area, a Search box, and contact information.

|

I
|
Image
|
A file type that can be included in a posting and displayed
as a photo, picture, or graphic. The supported formats for images on a community page are *.GIF and *.JPG.

Interest Guide
|
A list of Web Sites within a CPS database organized by channel
(category).

|
Clicking this button displays the Interest Guide for that
CPS database.

|
Clicking this button prompts the user to log in using his
or her user name and Password or to create a new user profile. Logging in identifies the user to the CPS database.

a CPS database. Clicking this button returns a user to "guest" status. The CPS database has no knowledge
of the user's identity.

Map
|
Some content posting layouts include a geographical map.
To use this feature, users must enter the address of a physical location. The content posting then includes a link
to view a generated map based upon the address.

Message Board
|
An online forum for users to read and respond to discussion
topics.
|
|
My Profile button
|
Clicking this button shows users their registration information,
which they can edit. Registration information includes name, email address, username, and password. My Profile
also shows a list of Web Sites in which users participate or participate as the Web Site Administrator. My Profile
also lets users control email sent by the CPS database.

|
A publishing page within a Web Site.

Partner Administrator
|
A partner representative within a CPS database using the
Partner Referral program. A partner administrator may control partner branding and other referral options.

Participants List
|
A read-only list of participants within a Web Site.
|

Participate button
|
This button may appear on individual Web Sites. Clicking
this button allows users to request participation within a particular Web Site.
|
|
Partner Channel
|
A type of channel associated with a partner involved in the
Partner Referral program. This channel is only available for association to a Web Site by users associated with
that partner's Referral ID.

Partner Referral
|
Partners within the community system have a template set
and a list of channels associated with them. Specific URLs link a partner's user to a Partner Customized Create
Site screen and Channel screens. Both the user and the Web Site are associated to the Partner Referral ID.

|
Password
|
A piece of information collected when a person creates a
user profile. The password is later used to confirm a user's identity and user type. This information is not displayed
to anyone in the system.
|
|
Posting
|
On some Web Site pages, users can add, edit, and delete postings.
Postings are published content (like a story) that can include, but is not limited to, text, images, discussions,
and attached files. A posting consists of — at a minimum — a title.
|
|
Posting Layout
|
When publishing a posting on a Web Site page, users must
first select a layout for the posting. This layout determines how the posting is physically displayed on the page
(for example, image left, text right).
|
|
Posting Layout Sets
|
To help users select a posting layout, all the layouts within
the community system are organized into layout sets such as Sports, News, and Basic. When a user selects a set,
he or she is shown the available layouts contained in the set. Also referred to as themes.
|
|
Private Page
|
A page within a Web Site that is set to PRIVATE. This page
can be viewed only by participants in the Web Site, the Web Site Administrator, system administrator, or Super
User.

|
Public Page
|
A page within a Web Site that is set to PUBLIC. This page
can be viewed by any user type, including guests.

Registered User
|
An individual that has registered (created a user profile)
with a CPS database. A registered user is eligible to participate in and administer Web Sites.
|
|
Related Web Sites
|
A subsite created as a subordinate Web Site to an existing
Web Site. The parent Web Site may set certain policies that affect the related Web Site. The related Web Site is
listed underneath the parent Web Site on the Site Directory. Links automatically appear on both Web Sites linking
one Web Site to the other. For example, if a Web Site was created for the Lincoln Elementary School, a related
Web Site created under Lincoln might be the Lincoln Elementary 3rd Grade site, and a related Web Site under that
might be Mrs. Anderson's 3rd Grade Class site.

Review/ Approve button
|
This button appears to Web Site Administrators when they
have content (published by a participant) that requires approval or participants that require approval for participation.
Clicking this button lets the Web Site Administrator approve or reject pending content or participants.

Site Directory
|
A list of Web Sites within a CPS database. The list may be
sorted by alphabet, most recently updated Web Site, Web Site with most content, Web Site with most participants,
and by relationship.

|
Clicking this button displays the Site Directory for that
CPS database.

Smart Features are special features that a Web
Site participant can add to any page of a Web Site, including the Interest Guide or channel page. You can add these
Smart Features:
- List of participants
- List of parent Web Sites
- List of related Web Sites
- List of channels where the Web Site is categorized
- List of associated Web Sites (for channel Web
Sites only)
- Web Site contact information
- Web Site name, description, and logo
- Web Site greeting messages
- Page name
- Internal content feed (also called "news
feed")
- Web Site Search box
- Mini-calendar
- Participate button
- Links to message board topics
- Links to chat rooms
- Links to chat transcripts
- Links to other pages
You insert and format a Smart Feature on a page
posting. Information that displays in these features updates automatically whenever new items, events, or options
are updated via the Web Site Manager. Although you publish and format Smart Features in postings on any page, you
update their content globally via the Web Site Manager console.
For example, you can add a mini-calendar Smart
Feature that shows a subset of events from the main calendar. If anyone adds an event to the main calendar, the mini-calendar also displays that new event.
You can select from multiple styles and formatting
options for each Smart Feature on each posting.

Sports Score
|
Some posting layouts may include a sports score. To use this
feature, users must enter the name of both teams, a date, and the score. The content posting includes a preformatted
boxed score.

|
Starting Web Site
|
A new setting within a user's profile that allows the user
to set a default or starting Web Site. The starting Web Site is referenced when a user clicks the Go To My Web Site button.
|
|
Super User
|
Local Communities Network, Inc.-only access to CPS databases for specific maintenance
and setup procedures.
|
|
System Administrator
|
The top customer administrator for the entire CPS database
and its data, preferences, policies, settings, templates, and so on. System administrators have access to a system
administration console and every page within their CPS databases. Above a Web Site Administrator.

|
System Template
|
The template that wraps the Interest Guide and the Site Directory.
Also referred to as site template.
|
T
|
Template
|
The look and feel of a page used as a basis for all pages
within the site. You can customize the look with your own logo, title, button styles, and more that wrap the dynamic
data on a page. Composed using HTML, and can include graphics, advertising, links, text, and so on.

Template Set
|
A grouping of templates that can be assigned to particular
Web Sites or channels.
|

|
Update This Page button
|
This button may appear to Web Site Administrators (on pages
other than the home page) and participants (on all pages, if participant publishing is enabled). Clicking this
button allows users to add, edit, and delete content.

|
Update Web Site button
|
This button appears only to Web Site Administrators. Clicking
this button displays the Web Site Manager, a web site administration console where they can change web site data,
preferences, policies, and settings, and select templates.

URL
|
Universal Resource Link. Some posting layouts may include
a web link (also called URL link). To use this feature, users must enter a description for the link (what other
users will see) and the URL for the link (the actual internet destination of the web link).

User Account
|
The System Administrator's view into a user's registration
information (except for email notification options). Also referred to as a "user profile."
|
|
User Name
|
A piece of information collected when a person creates a
user profile. The user name is later used to confirm a user's identity and user type. This information is available
to other users of the database.

Web Link
|
Some posting layouts may include a web link (also called
URL link). To use this feature, users must enter a description for the link (what other users see) and the URL
for the link (the actual Internet destination of the web link).

Web Site
|
A linked set of web pages for a group or organization (such
as a family, team, class, or club) consisting of publishing areas and communication tools such as calendars, discussions,
or chats.

|
Web Site Administrator
|
An end user responsible for the features and content available
on one or more Web Sites. The Web Site Administrator can change Web Site data, preferences, policies, settings,
and select templates from a Web Site administration console called the Web Site Manager. Below a System Administrator.

Web Site Participant
|
An end user registered with the CPS database that has elected
to join in one or more Web Sites. Participants can view private content in a Web Site, participate in Web Site
chat and discussion, and publish content to the Web Site (if the Web Site Administrator allows it).
